What to Know

- The last of the prosecution’s witnesses testified on Wednesday, then possible rebuttal witnesses and then it will be the defense’s turn to present its case.
The prosecution has rested its case rest and the defense is expected to begin presenting its case Wednesday in the trial of Matthew Farwell, the ex-Stoughton cop accused of killing a pregnant Sandra Birchmore in 2021 and staging her death as a suicide.
Opening statements were held Oct. 9 and the prosecution has said it could rest its case this week. The case has drawn national attention and is the latest Massachusetts criminal case in the spotlight after the recent trials of Lindsay Clancy and Karen Read.
