Who hit and killed a dog in Manchester-by-the-Sea? Police seek answers
Police in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, are asking for the public’s help locating a vehicle that struck and killed a dog early Wednesday morning.
Carley Cook and her beagle-collie mix, Ajax, were inseparable. The dog was hit and killed while the two were taking a walk on Beach Street.
“She needs closure right now, so I’m just reaching out to whoever did this, please find it in your heart to come forward,” said Hayes Demeule, an animal control officer in Manchester-by-the-Sea.
Manchester police are asking anyone with surveillance cameras covering six streets in town to review their footage between 12 and 12:30 a.m. for a black pickup truck that was traveling through the area. They believe the pickup truck to be a Ford F-150 with four doors and an open bed with no cover.
“It’s just kind of disturbing that someone sees someone in need and just doesn’t do the right thing,” said Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Chief Marc McCoy.
“Maybe originally, he didn’t understand that he had hit the dog, but he definitely pulled over, he definitely got out of the vehicle and saw this woman in distress and needing help, and he still got back in his vehicle without saying a word and left the scene,” Demeule said.
Areas of interest in the search include:
- Union Street
- Beach Street
- Masconomo Street
- Proctor Street
- Smith’s Point
- Gales Point
Anyone who has video footage or information that they think could assist in the investigation is being asked to call Manchester-by-the-Sea police at 978-526-1212.
