Vermont state senator arrested for domestic assault, police say
A Vermont state senator who is up for reelection next week has been charged with domestic assault, according to state police.
Vermont State Police said they received a report Tuesday that a domestic assault had taken place on Monday in Poultney.
They investigated and said they developed probable cause that 74-year-old Terry Williams, of Poultney, had assaulted a household member.
Williams was taken into custody on Tuesday. Bail was set at $500 and he taken to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Vermont Superior Court in Rutland.
No additional details were available, state police said. The affidavit including details about the arrest will be filed with the court and made public after his arraignment.
Williams is a two-term Republican state senator serving Rutland County. His name is on the ballot for the Nov. 3 election.
