Tank Dell Day established after wide receiver returns to Texans, Houston mayor declares

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Following his highly anticipated return to the gridiron, Mayor John Whitmire officially declared Oct. 29 "Tank" Dell Day in Houston.

On Wednesday, Whitmire announced the proclamation honoring the Texans wide receiver and former Houston Cougar.

Dell returned to the field for the first time in the Texans' overtime loss vs. the New York Giants on Sunday, after his catastrophic injury in Week 16 of the 2024 season against the Kansas City Chiefs. He missed the entire 2025 NFL season after suffering multiple torn ligaments (ACL, MCL, and LCL) and a dislocated kneecap in Week 16.

At the ceremony, Dell, a Florida native, thanked his coaches, friends, and family, calling Houston a second home.

Thursday is also Dell's 27th birthday.
