‘I miss her like crazy’: Loved ones remembering post office worker hit and killed by car

FORT THOMAS, Ky. (WXIX/Gray News) - Loved ones and a Kentucky community are mourning a post office worker who was hit and killed by a car while walking earlier this month.

Marchelle Bertram worked at the front desk of the Fort Thomas Post Office for years, helping people who came in. Sadly, she lost her life in a collision in Bellevue on Oct. 15.

Her daughter, Whitney Bertram, said she is remembering her mother while seeing a large amount of support from the community following her death.

“There are so many people I don’t know whose lives she’s touched and affected,” Whitney Bertram said.

The crash occurred while Marchelle Bertram was walking on Memorial Parkway near her home. Her daughter said she rushed to the hospital after learning her mother had been hit by a vehicle.

“Given the grave amount of injuries she sustained, there was no way she was going to survive,” she said.

Marchelle Bertram died at the hospital. Whitney Bertram said the driver stayed at the scene and believes the crash was an accident.

“I miss her like crazy; I try not to think about it too hard because I’ll break down,” she said.

According to Whitney Bertram, there has been an outpouring of support telling her that her mother was kind and well-known in the area.

Additionally, a woman at the post office began crying when she learned of Marchelle Bertram’s death.

“If she could come back for a moment just to see what a reaction has come about because she’s no longer with us, I think she’d be stunned,” Whitney said.

Whitney Bertram said those who would visit the post office would call her mother “the nice lady at the post office,” and knowing the good she put into the world is helping her get through the loss.

“You’re never truly gone until you’re forgotten about. It’s good to hear other people reaching out and expressing how much they miss her, too,” Whitney Bertram said.
