A man is accused of secretly recording an 11-year-old girl with his cellphone through a bathroom window at a Weston home Sunday night, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the suspect as Joel Luis Rivera, 27.
The girl noticed a cellphone outside the bathroom window with its camera facing inside and screamed, alerting her family, the arrest report states.
Deputies had already knocked on Rivera’s door looking for surveillance video before they knew he could be a suspect.
According to the arrest report, Rivera acknowledged that it was him in those surveillance videos but told deputies he’d gone behind the neighbor’s home to “go by the lake,” then ran back after hearing someone scream.

Surveillance video captured Rivera getting out of a pickup truck with a cellphone and walking toward the home before running back a short time later, authorities said.
The cellphone in Rivera’s possession also matched the description provided by the girl.
Additional surveillance footage from other dates showed an individual matching Rivera’s description walking toward the same home with a cellphone before later returning, the arrest report states. Investigators described the incidents as an apparent pattern of behavior.
Rivera faces charges of digital voyeurism and trespassing.
During a court appearance Wednesday, a Broward County judge set Rivera’s bond at $10,000 and ordered him to be on GPS monitoring, with no contact with the girl and no return to her home.
Jail records showed Rivera remained in custody Wednesday afternoon.
