Wednesday evening newscast: Patchy fog expected in eastern NM tomorrow, with rain in southern NM
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Tonight, most of New Mexico should stay quiet. Low clouds and patchy fog may redevelop across parts of eastern New Mexico.
Visibility could drop quickly in some low lying areas early Thursday morning from Tucumcari to Clovis to Roswell and west toward Santa Rosa, Guadalupe County and De Baca County. The fog does not look widespread.
Thursday starts the next active weather period as the remnants of Tropical Storm Vance move north into New Mexico. Southwest winds should carry that moisture into the southern part of the state.
Showers and thunderstorms should first develop Thursday across the southern tier, including Ruidoso, Mescalero, Cloudcroft, Capitan, Carrizozo, the Sacramento Mountains, Roswell and parts of south central New Mexico.
everal high resolution models place a localized area of heavier rain somewhere in the south central mountains, but the exact location remains uncertain.
That area could pick up one to two and a half inches of rain locally, though the higher totals should stay localized. The main question is how intense the rainfall rates become.
Thursday night, remnant moisture from Vance should spread rain more widely across southeastern and eastern New Mexico around Roswell, Artesia, Carlsbad, Hobbs, Clovis, Portales and Tucumcari. This looks more like a longer duration rain event than a widespread severe thunderstorm event.
