Police seek driver in Aiea hit-and-run that injured moped rider
Honolulu police are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run in Aiea that left a moped rider in serious condition.
Police said a 42-year-old woman was riding a moped eastbound on Kamehameha Highway at about 2:45 a.m. when an unidentified motorist rear-ended her. The woman was in the center lane and was thrown onto the roadway.
The driver did not stop to render aid or provide information and continued eastbound on the highway.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated the woman and took her to a hospital in serious condition. Police said she was not wearing a helmet, as required by law.
Speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash, police said. The possible involvement of alcohol or drugs remains unknown.
The investigation is ongoing.
