Gunman on the run after 14-year-old shot near metro Atlanta apartments
A 14-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after a shooting in Gainesville, and police are still searching for the gunman.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting near Chestnut Street and Atlanta Street just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators said the boy and the shooter knew each other and were involved in a dispute before the shooting. Police do not believe it was random.
The boy is in stable condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Channel 2’s Michael Seiden spoke with a Gainesville resident who asked not to be identified because the gunman remains at large.
He said he had not experienced any safety issues in the three years he has lived in the community. Now, he said, he is staying extra alert.
“I never thought that would happen, but these days you never tell in your neighborhood what’s going on,” he said.
The resident also described seeing officers arrive.
“When I pulled up, it was one police, and then about five showed up,” he said.

In an email to residents, Walton Summit Apartments management said the shooting happened just behind the community, injuring a resident and damaging a vehicle on the property.
Management said Gainesville police had advised there was no known active threat to the community.
As part of the investigation, detectives tracked a suspect vehicle to an apartment complex in Buford.
Channel 2 Action News asked police whether investigators recovered evidence there and whether they had a description of the gunman. As of Wednesday afternoon, police had not responded.
