Maine Morning Star’s 2026 Voter Guide
What You Need to Know

Voting is the cornerstone of democracy, and in 2026 Mainers will have a lot of important decisions to make when casting their ballots — from the very top of the ticket to the bottom.
On Nov. 3, Mainers will cast their vote in the midterm elections. With the state’s high-profile congressional races key to determining the balance of power in Congress, the contest between Democrat Troy Jackson and Republican incumbent U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is expected to be the most expensive in state history. In the 2nd Congressional District, voters will also decide who will replace outgoing Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Golden while in the 1st District they will consider Republican Ron Russell’s second challenge to incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree.
Maine voters will also be casting their ballot in a three-way race to replace Gov. Janet Mills. Democrat Hannah Pingree, Republican Bobby Charles and independent Rick Bennett are all on the ballot, which will not be ranked choice.
Every seat in the Maine Legislature, which has been held by Democrats in recent years, is also up for grabs, as are many local and county positions. Look here to see who is running in your legislative district.
