Trump says he will host ‘major tele-rally’ for Julia Letlow
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - On Wednesday (Oct. 28), President Donald Trump announced he will host a “major tele-rally” for Julia Letlow, the Republican nominee in Louisiana’s U.S. Senate election.
“I’m going to be doing a major TeleRally for Julia Letlow, who is running for the U.S. Senate and is spectacular, and our fantastic Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
According to President Trump, the live virtual rally will be held Monday evening, the day before the Louisiana Senate race, though he did not specify a time.
“I know Julia well, have seen her tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and she is a TOTAL WINNER!,” Trump wrote. “A Proud Mother of two children, Julia is a wonderful person, has ALWAYS delivered for Louisiana, and would continue doing so in the United States Senate.”
Early voting has seen a blue wave. According to the University of Florida’s Election Lab, 42% of early voters were registered Democrats, 39% were registered Republicans, and 18% had no party affiliation. Turnout among independent voters saw the biggest growth from 2022, jumping 65%.
Despite this, Robert Collins, political analyst at Dillard University, says Louisiana’s red status will likely be insulated, and the major senate race between Letlow and Democrat Jamie Davis still leans toward the GOP.
“Julia Letlow obviously remains the prohibitive favorite, but I think just the fact that you see these inflated numbers, I think the race could be closer than some people think,” said Collins.
Ed Chervenak, political analyst with LSU New Orleans, noted that Trump has not visited Louisiana as heavy hitters from both parties crisscross the country to drive support for certain races.
“He’s visiting Mississippi and other southern states. So, they feel that this state is safely in the Republican column,” said Chervenak.
In his Truth Social post, Trump said Letlow has his “complete and total endorsement.”
While more Democrats may have cast early ballots, Republicans historically turn out in stronger numbers on Election Day. That remains the expectation for Louisiana on Nov. 3.
