Man sentenced to 70 years in prison for murder of girlfriend’s coworker in 2025
A San Antonio man was sentenced to prison last week for killing his girlfriend’s coworker in 2025 on the Southwest Side.
A jury decided Ronnie Jay Salas, 24, will spend 70 years in prison for the murder of Andre Montera, 24, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
On April 23, 2025, Salas “ambushed” Montera over a suspected affair with his girlfriend, the district attorney’s office said. Salas waited outside Montera’s apartment in the 100 block of Ames Avenue, where he confronted and shot Montera in the stomach while he was in a car.
Montera was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Salas fled the scene before police arrived.
A Crime Stoppers post was issued the following month in search of Salas. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Kansas on May 15.
It took three months for Salas’ extradition back to Bexar County. Montera’s mother told KSAT she was not happy with the lengthy process.
“I was not going to let Texas take so long that this guy got to walk out the doors in Kansas. I just wasn’t,” Toni Brantley said.
The governor’s office said timelines for these processes can vary based on “court schedules, transport and personnel availability.”
A jury trial to convict Salas began last week and concluded on Oct. 23, when he was found guilty.
