Man dies after falling onto MBTA Red Line tracks and being hit by train
A man died after falling onto the tracks of the MBTA Red Line in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and being hit by a train early Tuesday in what was apparently a tragic accident, police said.
The incident took place in Central Square station about 12:50 a.m., and foul play was not suspected, according to MBTA Transit Police.
The man may have been sleeping beforehand and did appear unsteady on his feet before he fell into the train's right of way, police said.
"On behalf of the Transit Police Department and the entire MBTA organization we offer our most heartfelt condolences to the decedent’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them," police said in a statement.
