For the fourth time in five games, the first quarter closed with the Utah Jazz in the lead.
Keyonte George was the early hero for Utah, pouring in 13 points on 57 percent shooting. The Jazz’s quick start was aided by a sluggish one from San Antonio.
Through 12 minutes, the Jazz lead 32-22.
In previous games, a hot start was quickly negated by lapses in the second or third quarters. That wasn’t the case on Wednesday.
Instead of an explosion from the opponent, San Antonio chipped away at the Jazz lead, winning the second quarter by six and the third by four.
Tied at 85-85, 12 minutes were left on the clock for either team to take the win. Though it didn’t quite end like that.
consistency is key(onte) 🙌

Both San Antonio and Utah scored 20 in the fourth, which set up the first overtime of the season for the Jazz.
Fatigue set in as Utah played past 48 minutes for the first time in nearly 300 days. The Spurs started the period on a 12-3 run and cruised to their third win of the season.
George finished with a season-high 31 points. Ace Bailey and Darryn Peterson stepped up as the clear second and third options. Both would also finish with a new season-high in scoring. 19 points for Bailey and 18 for Peterson.
How Injuries Have Changed The Gameplan
Against San Antonio, the Jazz’s injury report was extensive, with many of the names coming from the frontcourt.
Head coach Will Hardy touched on how the missing players have impacted the scheme and forced the team to be able to work on the fly.
We’ve had to sort of retool what we’re looking at offensively a couple of times here early, just with some injuries, and that’s just part of a season. In general, we want to try to put pressure on the rim, generate catch-and-shoot threes when we can.
We’re just trying to build the understanding as a team of what high-value shots are for us. How we get those may have to change a little bit with certain guys in and out.
Earlier in the week, Hardy explained how Jusuf Nurkic often operates as a playmaking hub within the offense. In his absence, Utah’s guards have had some of those half-court duties added to their plate.
The Jazz now face a new challenge with Jaren Jackson Jr. out, one of the highest usage frontcourt players.
We got the first taste of how that might look on Wednesday, but it will be a process filled with highs and lows until JJJ returns.
Takeaways from Will Hardy’s pregame presser:
– The offense has had to “retool” a few times because of injuries
– The goal is for the young guys to be more comfortable offensively. Right now, that looks like making it simpler for them.
– Ace’s plate has been full, namely on defense. But he’s handled it great.
– San Antonio’s three guards can all self-create, and the Spurs like to run. Says Utah’s transition defense will be tested.— Chandler Holt (@CHoltSports) October 29, 2026
Jazz vs. Spurs Quick Hits
- Outside of George, Bailey, and Peterson, Brice Sensabaugh was the only other Jazz player to score in double figures. He finished with 16 points, three of which came in overtime.
- Mo Bamba followed his season-debut on Monday with another positive outing. The big man posted eight points, four rebounds, and a block.
- Utah kept the second chance and transition points close, but not the points in the paint. San Antonio scored nearly half of their points (54) in the paint. Utah scored 34.
- The Utah Jazz end their homestand against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, October 31. That game will tip off at 1:00 p.m. (MT).
