Second suspect arrested in deadly shooting at Jacksonville motel

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced the second arrest Thursday in a deadly shooting at a Jacksonville motel on May 29.

JSO said Dequan McDonald, 21, had been in jail since July in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries and thefts in the Cobblestone area. Homicide detectives received a warrant Wednesday for McDonald in the motel murder, a JSO news release states.

Alfred Jones III, 25, was taken into custody two days after the shooting.

On the day of the murder, officers arrived at the motel in response to a shooting. When police arrived, they found 40-year-old Giavonathan Butler with a gunshot wound inside of a motel room. He was pronounced dead.
