Wanted man steals $5k in jewelry from woman, shoots out her tire in Kroger parking lot

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A 43-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Memphis police said he stole thousands of dollars in jewelry from a woman, then shot out her car tire when she followed him.

Marterrio Harris was booked into jail Oct. 27 in connection with an incident that happened late last year, according to an affidavit.

Police said the victim asked Harris to leave her home on Waterview Cove after he became upset with her over an outstanding warrant from a previous incident involving her.

Harris then stole her jewelry box, containing about $5,000 worth of jewelry, and left on foot, the affidavit states.

The victim followed Harris in her car. Police said Harris pulled out a pistol and approached her with the gun down by his side. She backed away, fearing she would be shot, and Harris walked away.

She continued to follow him to the Kroger parking lot on Kirby Road, where Harris shot out one of her car tires, according to the affidavit. The victim had to pay for a replacement tire. Police said a witness in the parking lot corroborated the shooting.

Harris is charged with aggravated assault - domestic violence, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, theft of property and vandalism.
