Investigation underway following early morning house fire in Highland Heights

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Officials are investigating an early morning house fire that occurred Thursday on Coleman Avenue.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m., producing heavy flames and smoke visible to nearby residents.

“My thing was, who would do it, why would you set something on fire. I thought they were burning wood or something back there I didn’t know the whole house was on fire,” said a neighbor who asked not to show her face. “Worried, scary, it makes me wonder — I’m glad they caught it because it could’ve landed over this way. The trees are leaning, and it’s just too much.”

Action News 5 crews at the scene spotted a stretcher being taken into the home, along with a forensic team responding to the location. It remains unclear whether any injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Action News 5 has reached out to the Memphis Fire Department for additional details.
