A new law in Pennsylvania is aimed at keeping students safer at the bus stop.
Act 89 increases the required stopping distance from 10 feet to 15 feet when a school bus is stopped with lights flashing and the stop arm extended.
There will also be new penalties for repeat offenders.
PennDOT and school districts are also required to expand school bus safety education. That part of the law goes into effect in December.
The stopping distance and penalties take effect next October.
