Alleged burglars spark police chase that ends with crash, arrests on Eisenhower in west suburbs
Several suspected burglars who were allegedly driving stolen vehicles were arrested early Thursday after a police pursuit ended in a crash on the Eisenhower Expressway in the western suburbs, Addison police said.
Around 4:35 a.m., detectives were watching several gaming locations due to recent burglary activity when they noticed a Dodge Durango with no license plates and a BMW pull into the parking lot of Maria’s Gaming Cafe at 40 East Lake, Addison police said.
The occupants of the vehicles forced their way into the cafe — which had been prone to prior burglaries — and took items from inside before fleeing, officials said.
Spike strips were deployed on the BMW to disable it and the occupants moved into the Durango which then fled onto the Eisenhower, police said.
After a pursuit involving several agencies, the Durango was halted using "stop mitigation devices" near I-290 and 25th Avenue near Bellwood and, after a short foot chase, several suspects were taken into custody, police said.
Several guns and burglary proceeds have been recovered and both vehicles were reported stolen, authorities said.
Illinois State Police troopers assisted in the crash, according to a spokesperson. Three lanes were shut down on I-290 eastbound, west of 25th Ave., and reopened at approximately 6:05 a.m. The investigation was ongoing.
