Saint Louis Zoo announces debut of capybara, with another on the way

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Saint Louis Zoo announced Thursday that capybaras are back at the zoo, and one recently made her debut in a newly renovated habitat.

Nala, a 6-year-old female capybara, recently debuted at the River’s Edge area of the zoo. She came to St. Louis this summer from Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

The zoo said the revamped habitat is designed specifically for capybara enrichment, with lots of space and two swimming pools. While she’s alone for now, the zoo says another capybara will join her this fall, based on a recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Capybara Species Survival Plan.
