Father of 2 drowns after being caught in current trying to rescue seagull caught in fishing line

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - A young father of two lost his life on Sunday after being caught in a current while trying to help a seagull tangled in his fishing line near his Florida home.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, William "Stone" Romberg, 31, was fishing near Carillon Beach when he saw a bird caught in his line. He swam out to free the bird, but both the bird and the hook became caught on his hand.

As Romberg swam back to shore, the current carried him out further, and he drowned.

Stone worked as a beach service manager at Carillon Beach's La Dolce Vita rentals, which has established a GoFundMe for the family.
