Eight massage businesses in Everett were condemned for safety and illegal activity

Eight massage businesses in Everett have been condemned for safety hazards and operating illicit massage parlors, according to the Everett Police and Fire Departments.

Online reviews, advertisements, and community tips lead police to the locations, according to a statement from the departments.

Police and fire officials have inspected 28 of the businesses so far. Eight were condemned, while two others are under review for possible further action.

The Washington Attorney General’s Office said it told 23 landlords that illegal activities may be taking place at their buildings, and 11 shut those businesses down.

Three of the eight condemned businesses have since reopened after correcting immediate fire and life-safety hazards. Police also issued 10 citations for violations of the city’s massage and reflexology ordinance during the initial inspections.

The Washington Attorney General’s Office said 11 of the 23 landlords who said illegal activities may be taking place at their buildings have since closed the businesses there.

Everett officials said the enforcement effort remains ongoing.
