Knights forward could return for upcoming road trip
Vegas Golden Knights goal scorer Victor Olofsson returned to practice Thursday for the first time since an upper-body injury kept him out for the past three weeks.
Olofsson, who was week-to-week, was a non-contact participant at practice, a sign he’s inching closer to a return. That could be during the Knights’ four-game road trip starting Monday in Boston.
Coach Ryan Craig said Olofsson could join the team then. Olofsson took part in the first half of practice before working separately with skills coach Sean Farrell.
“That’s another good sign,” Craig said. “I’d expect the next step is to continue to progress from there, so hopefully he is joining us on the road.”
Olofsson got off to a scorching start in his second tenure with the Knights, scoring four goals in the first four games.
Two of them came Oct. 6 against the Seattle Kraken. In the third period, Olofsson was cross-checked into the boards by Seattle forward Ben Meyers.
Olofsson was slow to get up and be helped from the bench.
It was a sense of déjà vu for Olofsson. He got off to a similar start two years ago with the Knights, but a lower-body injury forced him to miss a month and a half.
Braeden Bowman and Raphael Lavoie have split time at Olofsson’s third-line right wing position. Trevor Connelly has filled in for him on the first power play unit. Those are roster decisions that will need to be addressed before Olofsson is back to game action.
The 31-year-old forward has 122 goals in 452 career games. He signed a one-year contract with the Knights on July 1 after spending last season in Colorado and Calgary.
