“The energy was crazy and wild,” one fan exclaimed. “It’s all Atlanta, right? It’s for Atlanta!”
The Dream’s big win to force Game 7 of the WNBA Finals was off the charts. And some—if not most—of the fans who attended may have been playing hooky. Little Ruth Tussey, 8 years old, had some explaining to do.
“Well, yes, but…” Tussey began.
“But this is more fun?” Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen asked.
“Ha! Yeah!” Tussey exclaimed.
LaCecila Gerton and her BFF, Kim Teasley, took off work with permission.
“With women’s sports and basketball, and they’re right here in Atlanta, why not?” Gerton said.
But Porshia Jacobs and her BFF Kiesha—who wouldn’t give her last name—not so much.

“Should you be at work right now?” Petersen asked.
“Oh my! Ha! I’m sure it’s okay with the boss today. Nothing to see here! Nothing to see,” Jacobs and Kiesha said.
But they did see Game 6 of the WNBA Finals, and watching the Dream right here at home was a dream come true.
As for little Ruth Tussey, who took the day off from school, it was Dad’s idea.
“It was actually a lucky coincidence. She had a doctor’s appointment today, and they happened to schedule the game right after. I said, ‘Might as well go to the game as well,’” Ethan Tussey said.
