Trump and Freedom Caucus approval, election confidence: Three takeaways from a Wyoming survey ahead of the general election

From approval of the president to confidence in elections, the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center’s 2026 election survey, which was published Wednesday, takes the state’s pulse on a wide swath of political and policy issues.
Here are three takeaways from the survey.
More Wyomingites disapprove than approve of Trump.
In a state where 72% of voters chose Trump in the 2024 general election, about 49% of respondents disapprove or strongly disapprove of the way the president is handling his job, while roughly 39% approve or strongly approve. Another 12% are neutral.
The survey asked about Trump differently in previous years, so it doesn’t provide a direct comparison to see how approval of the president has changed in Wyoming over time. Nationally, Trump’s approval rating has fallen from roughly 48% when he began his second term in 2025 to 34% this month, a historic low, according to CNN Poll of Polls.
Wyomingites aren’t happy with the Wyoming Freedom Caucus, but it’s a slim majority.
In line with Wyomingites’ rejection of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus in the primary elections, the survey indicates that a majority of respondents aren’t happy with the group.
But it’s a slim majority. About 51% of respondents said they disapprove or strongly disapprove of the caucus, while roughly 21% approve or strongly approve of the group. A decent chunk of people — about 28% — are neutral.
Those results contrast with the caucus’ overwhelming losses in the state Legislature during the August primaries. After the caucus gained majority control of the state House in 2024, it lost most of its House seats this year and also fell behind in the Senate.
Most Wyomingites feel confident in the state’s elections.
Amid Trump’s ongoing claims that America’s voting system is not to be trusted, about 56% of Wyoming respondents said they believe vote counts across the state will be very reliable, while another 28% expect counts will be somewhat reliable. Roughly 16% are neutral, or believe vote counts will be somewhat or very unreliable.
The numbers indicating confidence in Wyoming’s elections are similar to 2024 survey results, which asked about Wyoming vote counts specifically for the presidential race. But the percentages of people who indicated that they think the vote counts will be neither reliable nor unreliable, somewhat reliable or very unreliable are slightly higher this year than in 2024.
In both years, Wyomingites indicated that they were much more confident in the state’s elections than they were in vote counts across the country.
