Police: Teen shot male, security officer at downtown Las Vegas transit center

A teenager shot a male and a security officer at a downtown Las Vegas transit center on Sunday before another security officer shot the teen, according to an arrest report.

Amari Heath, 17, faces six felony charges including attempted murder, battery, assault and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, as well as a gross misdemeanor count of discharging a weapon where a person might be endangered, Las Vegas Justice Court records show.

“Due to the nature of Heath’s charges and his age, his case was directly filed into the adult system,” a Clark County district attorney’s office spokesperson said in an email Thursday.

Authorities have said the shooting injured three at the Bonneville Transit Center, near East Bonneville Avenue and South First Street, just before 6:50 p.m.

The report said all three gunshot-wound victims were taken to University Medical Center for treatment. Heath and the security officer were not listed in the medical center’s system as of Thursday, while the male’s condition is “fair,” a medical center spokesperson said.

Surveillance video appeared to show Heath walking with another juvenile at the transit center, according to the report. Heath appeared to argue with another male before they all exited the station.

As they exited, the report said, Heath pulled out a handgun and fired at the male he was arguing with. Police said Heath struck the male in his left arm and hit a Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada security officer in his left ankle with a stray bullet.

Another security officer who saw Heath shooting told police he shot the teen because he believed Heath was shooting into a crowd that included women and children. Surveillance footage showed that officer and several other security officers took Heath into custody and waited for police to arrive, according to the report.

Heath had gunshot wounds to his left shoulder, right thigh and right foot, the report said.

The juvenile who was with Heath told police Heath was affiliated with the “4200 Death Lane Crip” gang out of San Bernardino, California, and that he and Heath had been arrested together around late 2025, the report said.

The male victim’s wife, who was present at the shooting, told investigators a group of three males had confronted her husband at the transit center and asked him, “Where are you from?” One male said, “I’m from west-coast gang,” and her husband responded, “What does that have to do with anything?” according to the report.

Heath declined to talk with detectives after the shooting, the report said.

Heath’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12, online Las Vegas Justice Court records show.
