Tennessee man sentenced for deadly drive-by shooting

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A man from Tennessee has been sentenced to prison for a deadly drive-by shooting.

Anthony Tobias-Haywood, 31, pleaded guilty in St. Louis court to 11 felony counts, including second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of Daniel Hughes. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Anthony Tobias-Haywood is accused of killing Daniel Hughes in the City of St. Louis.

Hughes, 24, was killed in a drive-by shooting while standing on a sidewalk in the 1600 block of Hamilton Avenue on April 22, 2024.

Police used surveillance video, license plate readers and a rental car’s GPS data to link Tobias-Haywood to the death.

Prosecutors said Tobias-Haywood also pleaded guilty to aggravated fleeing and several gun and drug charges stemming from a June 2025 incident. Sentences for those charges will run concurrently with the 13 years for the homicide. He will also receive credit for 16 months of jail time served.
