OCEANSIDE, New York -- A Long Beach woman who suffered a stroke in 2025 reunited Thursday with the doctors who treated her at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, thanking the medical team she credits with saving her life.
Mia Amorosa collapsed on her bathroom floor in August 2025 after suffering a stroke that left her unable to move her arm or leg. Her daughter found her about two hours later and called 911.
"Minutes matter when you're having a stroke, and I can't imagine moving from one place to another for the treatment I needed, I believe it saved my life," Amorosa said.
Amorosa was taken to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, where doctors removed a clot in her brain using the hospital's biplane imaging system.
The emergency mechanical thrombectomy procedure helps doctors diagnose and treat neurological conditions such as stroke.
"It's why we do what we do, stories like this are validating the work that we put in," said Dr. M. Travis Caton of Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital.
Hospital officials said Mount Sinai South Nassau has expanded its 24/7 emergency stroke treatment capabilities. The expansion includes three neurovascular surgeons and an additional biplane imaging suite designed to provide around-the-clock interventional treatment.
On Thursday, Amorosa met with the doctors who treated her and thanked them for their work.
"They truly saved my life," she said.
Reflecting on her recovery, Amorosa said, "I was able to make all the important moments and I still am thankfully."
Doctors are expected to further explain how the biplane imaging technology works and what it means for stroke patients.
