Authorities announced the arrest of a hit-and-run suspect in connection with a South Los Angeles crash that killed a 16-year-old boy and injured his sister.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Authorities announced the arrest of a hit-and-run suspect in connection with a South Los Angeles crash that killed a 16-year-old boy and injured his mother and sister.

The woman police suspect was driving the vehicle involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed 16-year-old Hernan Martinez and seriously injured his 14-year-old sister, Vicki, is now in custody, authorities said.

Police arrested Raygine Glentasia Evans on Wednesday morning in connection with the crash. Investigators believe Evans was driving a blue Nissan Sentra that sped through a stop sign last month, striking Hernan and Vicki as they crossed the street in a crosswalk with their mother.

According to police, Evans was traveling about 80 mph when she struck the family. Hernan was killed, and Vicki suffered serious injuries.

The arrest comes about a week after police held a news conference announcing a $50,000 reward for information leading to Evans' arrest.

Authorities said they could not provide details about how Evans was located. However, police said officers found her driving in the San Fernando Valley and took her into custody without incident.

"A lot of help came through from the community, from people. And this is a great case, because this was one of those cases that we said that it's not going to just be us. It's a partnership with everybody out here in the city, the community. And it took that kind of help to make this happen yesterday," LAPD Detective Ryan Moreno said.

"Oftentimes, we're divided as a community. Blacks over here, Hispanics over here, whites over here. But this was an opportunity and an honor for a community to come together, no matter our color, our gender, or where we come from, to work with the police and elected officials to put somebody away that deserves to be put in jail," said Hyde Park resident Jerome Alexander.

The arrest brought some relief to the victim's family. Eliseo, the older brother of Hernan and Vicki, said the development has lifted a weight off the hearts of his mother and sister.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police said they are still searching for the woman who was a passenger in Evans' vehicle. Authorities are also looking for two men whom they say picked Evans up in a getaway vehicle.
