Woman falsely claims husband armed with chainsaw was going to cut her up

ROOSEVELT — A Roosevelt woman accused of falsely reporting to police that her husband had a chainsaw and was going to cut up people in her home is now facing a felony charge.

The 33-year-old woman was charged Thursday in 8th District Court with emergency reporting abuse, a second-degree felony; and public intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.

On Oct. 22, the woman called 911 claiming her husband "was threatening to cut her son and her up for parts. (She) also reported that her husband was also armed with a chainsaw and was in the house," according to a police booking affidavit.

The call prompted a response from multiple law enforcement agencies. When officers arrived, the woman claimed she had locked herself in a room and was too scared to come out, the affidavit states.

As police attempted to forcefully enter the home, the husband opened the door. Officers then found the woman inside a room and noted she was "heavily intoxicated" and "could not stand or walk without swaying and her eyes were extremely dilated even though she was in a lit area. When asked how much alcohol she had consumed, she stated that she had drank a half-gallon of vodka," according to the affidavit.

Police note in their affidavit that while talking to the woman, "she kept saying 'wait this is real now.'"

Investigators say they found no evidence of a fight or a chainsaw.

"There was nothing indicating that what (the woman) reported as an emergency occurred," the affidavit states.

The woman was placed under arrest and booked into the Duchesne County Jail.
