14-year-old student charged with bringing loaded gun to school in Boston
A 14-year-old was arrested this week for bringing a loaded gun to school in Boston.
Around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said officers assigned to the School Engagement Unit were patrolling in the area of Snowden International High School on Maxwell Street when they were approached by someone who reported that the school was made aware of a student who was in possession of a firearm.
An officer then saw that student walking between the campuses near Newbury and Exeter streets. He got out of his cruiser and approached the school, where he was met by a school resource officer who said he believed one of their students had a gun.
Additional officers arrived at the scene and responded to the office where the student was located. They approached the student and during a frisk, found a gun in the student’s waistband, police said. The student was then taken into custody.
The gun was determined to be a Smith & Wesson ghost gun loaded with 10 rounds of live ammunition, police said.
The student, a 14-year-old male from Roxbury, is now facing charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm on school grounds, possession of a firearm without a license and possession of ammunication without a firearm identification card, police said. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
