Gov. Landry calls Daylight Saving Time ‘stupid’ in social media post

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - As President Donald Trump continues to push for the Senate to pass the Sunshine Protection Act, Gov. Jeff Landry called Daylight Saving Time “stupid” in a post to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Thursday.

I think we can all agree how stupid Daylight Saving Time is!
So, instead of falling back an hour this weekend, I say we spring forward four hours.

That way LSU v. Bama will kickoff when it’s supposed to, and the Tide can experience a true Saturday Night in Death Valley!

— Jeff Landry (@JeffLandry) October 29, 2026

The Louisiana governor’s post was in reference to the LSU Tigers’ upcoming matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide this Saturday. The game is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Landry’s message comes as President Trump calls on the Senate to pass the Sunshine Protection Act, a House-passed bill that would make daylight saving time permanent.

“The United States Senate is letting the Daylight Saving Bill die, when a vast Majority of the Country want it,” Trump wrote on Truth social this week.

However, the Senate is not expected to act on the bill before the end of 2026.
