2026 general election candidate survey.
What Idahoans need to know to vote in the Nov. 3 general election
The Nov. 3 general election is important in Idaho because voters will determine who will be selected for office for all six statewide constitutional officers, including governor, and all 105 legislative seats. State constitutional officers serve a four-year term, while state legislators serve a two-year term.
Three of Idaho’s four congressional seats are also up for election this year, including one U.S. Senate seat, which is a six-year term, and two U.S. House of Representatives seats, which are two-year terms.
There are also four ballot measures on all Idahoans’ ballots:
- Proposition 1, which would repeal Idaho’s abortion ban laws and provide privacy protections for reproductive health decisions, including contraceptives, fertility treatments and in vitro fertilization;
- House Joint Resolution 4, which would determine if only the state Legislature — and not Idaho citizens — would be allowed to propose drug legalization policy, including marijuana legalization;
- House Joint Resolution 6, which would establish English as the state’s official language; and
- A nonbinding advisory question, which would ask voters their preference on which firearm should be selected as the state’s official gun.
Other local measures and positions will be on voters’ general election ballots, including elections for county positions, highway districts, higher education boards, and district and magistrate judges.
