Gaston County woman seeking answers after shots fired into her home
GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) - A Gaston County woman is moving out of her home as she fears for her safety after a shooting into her home on earlier this month.
Maria Roman says about two dozen gunshots woke her up around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21. in south Gastonia.
“All I did was cover my ears, scream. I guess I was so nervous. I really thought I was dead,” said Roman.
Her children were not home at the time of the shooting, but says they’d be dead if they were.
“Thank God that God shielded my bedroom and that my kids weren’t in their bed because this wouldn’t be the story I would be telling today,” said Roman, who is moving out of her home because of her fear from the shooting.
Some of the bullets, according to Roman, went through her front door, through her living room and out of her back door.
“I cannot sit in my front porch and drink coffee without feeling that somebody’s going to come by and do something to me or my kids,” she said. “My mind is not the same. They stole my peace.”
Gaston County police detectives are investigating this incident, but Roman says she hasn’t heard enough from them. She wants more direct communication because it would bring her peace of mind.
“I would like them to contact me, meet me at my house, tell me what they’ve been doing, what have they been doing with my case,” she said.
WBTV has reached out to Gaston County police and is waiting to hear back.
As the investigation continues, Roman hopes this incident is a case of mistaken identity.
“If the person did it by accident, if it was random, if they know they got the wrong house, I would love for them to just show up and say that it was random so I can probably get my peace back,” said Roman, who has a different opinion if this shooting was a targeted attempt on her family’s life.
“I would want them to pay for whatever they did,” she said.
