Smoke under I-85 near Cheshire Bridge Road in Atlanta

A fire broke out underneath Interstate 85 northbound near Cheshire Bridge Road.

A Channel 2 Action News photographer is in the area, where we’re seeing smoke. There’s also fire engines are visible and signs indicate a lane closure.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, there’s a brush fire on I-85 northbound at SR 13 / Buford highway. All lanes are currently closed.

Atlanta Fire Rescue responded around 11:10 p.m. to a large outdoor fire beneath I-85 near the Buford Highway Connector. Crews brought the fire under control by approximately 11:40 p.m.

Both northbound and southbound I-85 lanes were temporarily shut down, along with portions of Buford Highway near Cheshire Bridge Road, as crews worked to put out the fire and ensure roadway safety.
