LETTER: Signs, signs…
Russell J. Sanders North Las Vegas

We just spent a few days in the Reno/Carson City area, our first visit there. We were struck by the beauty, especially since fall color was bursting. I was also struck by the political signs. None was more than about three-feet square, and they were unobtrusively placed on private properties (businesses.) There was usually only one sign at each location, and they were almost hard to recognize as political advertising.
Cut to the Las Vegas Valley. During an election cycle, every vacant lot is littered for six months with enormous signs, many battered by weather because they are allowed to stay out so long. Metropolitan Las Vegas is beautiful in its own right, but for months upon months political trash lines streets. I even told one campaigner who came to our door that I would not vote for his choice because that candidate was among the first to install billboard-size signs by the side of the roads all over our area.
It’s bad enough that one has to mute every commercial cycle on TV because of the three to four minutes of political lying presented by candidates. But then, when we go out, our drives are poisoned by months of signs, signs, signs.
