PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Ticketing is now live for the speed cameras along the final stretch of Route 13, which cuts through the city from Northeast to West Philadelphia.
There are speed cameras in 11 locations on Rt. 13, from Strawberry Mansion to Southwest Philadelphia, that were activated as of 12:01 a.m. on Friday.
These add to the six cameras along the northern part of Rt. 13 that were activated in June.
During the initial 60-day warning period, drivers received warnings in the mail. Now, tickets will arrive for drivers going 11 miles per hour or more over the speed limit.
Fines are $100 for traveling 11 to 19 mph over the speed limit, and go up from there.
No points are assigned to the driver's license.
The Philadelphia Parking Authority pointed to Roosevelt Boulevard as a success story, where they say speeding has been reduced by 95% due to these cameras.
Another 31 speed cameras are also activated along Broad Street, between the city's northern and southern limits.
The city analyzes injury, crash, and speed data to prioritize corridors to target for dangerous driving.
The city is looking to expand the program to other corridors, including Route 2016 (Allegheny Avenue), Route 1004 (Erie and Torresdale), and 2001 (Delaware Avenue, Oregon Ave east of Broad, and Richmond Street).
Revenue from speed camera tickets help fund traffic safety projects in Philadelphia.
