Boston University holds its annual pumpkin drop: Watch live at 1:30
With Halloween just a day away, Boston University’s Physics Department will hold its 19th annual pumpkin drop on Friday afternoon.
The festivities begin around 1:30 p.m., with the Boston University Prep Band playing starting at 1:45 p.m. The pumpkins will fall around 2 p.m. You can watch the event live in the video player above or on NBC10 Boston’s YouTube channel.
Thirty-plus pumpkins filled with a variety of fillings, from paint to whipped cream, will be dropped 70 feet from the top of the Metcalf Science Center on Commonwealth Avenue onto Metcalf Plaza below. Students and staff are being encouraged to arrive in costume.
The school points out that in addition to being “a festive spectacle around Halloween,” the event provides lessons in gravitation, velocity and energy transition “from potential kinetic to explosion.”
