Final fright for Albuquerque haunted house outgrowing neighborhood

Final fright for Halloween House

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Bryan Huskisson is opening his final full haunted house after drawing about 3,000 Halloween visitors and building what he says is Albuquerque’s largest yard haunt.

Huskisson’s Halloween house sits near Wyoming and Alameda. Huskisson spent 13 years turning his home into a large haunted attraction, but he said this will be the last year he invites the community to the full walkthrough.

“And there’s probably approximately, I would say, over 340 spiders all throughout the tour,” Bryan Huskisson said.

Huskisson said he spends close to five months each year building, decorating, lighting and changing the maze. He said the display includes about 350 to 400 pallets, static props, live actors and real misters.

“As far as I know, it’s the largest residential yard haunt in Albuquerque,” Huskisson said.

Huskisson said his neighbors support the display, but the event has grown beyond the area. He said about 3,000 people came by on Halloween and close to 1,600 people visited on Thursday, Oct. 29 alone.

“And I wanted them to have something to remember,” Huskisson said. “And then it became a neighborhood thing, and then it became a city thing.”

“On Halloween, we had approximately about 3,000 people here,” Huskisson said. “It was a madhouse because we feel like we can’t do better than what we’ve done. We’ve reached that pinnacle to where we’ve kind of outgrown our community.”

Huskisson said he will still do something for Halloween in the future, but this is the last year for the full haunted house.

“I will always do something on Halloween. Trust me, I am still Mr. Halloween,” Huskisson said.

Huskisson’s final haunted house is open Friday night and Saturday for Halloween. He said it usually starts at dusk or around 6:30 p.m., which he said works best for little kids.

“It is completely free,” Huskisson said.

Huskisson asked visitors to bring nonperishable food items for donation to a local YMCA, which will use them to make Thanksgiving gift baskets for needy families. He said organizers collected 4,100 food items last year and hope to top 5,000 this year.

The house is located at 7725 William Moyers Ave NE Albuquerque, NM 87122.
