Friday morning forecast: Wet weather expected through the weekend
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Remnants of Tropical Storm Vance will keep wet weather over New Mexico through the weekend, with more rain, flash flood concerns and breezy conditions possible.
Lighter showers continued Friday morning after steadier moderate rain moved through parts of Lee County earlier in the overnight hours.
The first system was the remnants of Tropical Storm Vance from the eastern Pacific, moving north and east, while a second system is set to reach western communities later Friday evening.
Showers and storms will remain likely through the day, with locally heavy rainfall possible. Flash flood risk stays low in the green areas, but areas in the yellow band including Silver City, Reserve, Englewood and parts of Catron County face a slightly higher chance.
What comes next?
Early Halloween morning could stay soggy in central parts of the state as a band of rain moves west to east. After that, Saturday could bring a few isolated pop-up showers and storms.
The metro has a low chance of rain Saturday, and the weather is not expected to ruin Halloween evening plans for children going trick-or-treating.
Rain chances increase again Sunday, with more concern for flash flooding in northern and western areas. Forecasters said rivers already run high and soils remain saturated, so more rainfall could quickly lead to runoff problems.
Daylight saving time also ends Sunday. Sunrise shifts from 7:26 a.m. on Halloween morning to 6:27 a.m. Sunday, and sunset changes from 6:13 p.m. to 5:12 p.m.
Another system is expected Sunday and will continue into Monday.
