Over 835K votes cast as SC sees record early voting turnout
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina is seeing record early-voting turnout over a week after the window opened.
Data from the South Carolina Election Commission shows that 85,312 votes were cast on Thursday, bringing the statewide total to 838,420.
The number is now the highest early turnout for a gubernatorial election since the state first began offering early voting in 2022.
The following counties topped the list:
- Greenville 83,212
- Charleston: 78,759
- Richland: 73,786
- Horry: 72,101
- York: 47,196
The first day of the early voting window on Oct. 19 saw more than double the turnout compared to the 2022 midterm election. That number was slightly down from the 2024 presidential election.
Other details, such as voter participation by party affiliation, are not made available in a general election.
South Carolina’s early voting period runs through Oct. 31. Click/tap here for more information.
