Suspect in fatal Arts District stabbing arrested in Texas
A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in September outside a business in the Arts District.
Hyland Harper, 40, was detained by the FBI in Dallas, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release. He is expected to be booked into the Tarrant County Jail where he will await extradition back to Las Vegas for open murder with a deadly weapon.
The stabbing occurred just before 2:50 a.m. Sept. 26 in the parking lot of a business in the 70 block of West Imperial Avenue, just off South Commerce Street. Officers found the victim — identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Jamaal Gaither, 48 — in the parking lot suffering from an apparent stab wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators say that Gaither had been involved in a verbal altercation with another man inside the establishment, resulting in the victim being escorted out of the business. A second verbal altercation ensued outside.
