Police said Fridrich, who was 24 years old at the time, was found about 400 yards from the scene and was arrested swiftly.
Khan's neighbors told ABC13 in 2023 that multiple people witnessed the attack, including several children. Matthew Amador, a neighbor, recalled to Eyewitness News that he grabbed his Katana sword when he realized what was happening and ran after Fridrich.
According to a delivery driver who spoke to ABC13 in 2023, the suspect reportedly lived under an overpass about three miles from the apartment complex.
Khan worked at the Conroe branch of Texas Children's Pediatrics. She and her 14-year-old daughter moved into the apartments just a few months before the murder.
