4-year-old’s body was found in closet under pile of clothes
Channel 2 Action News has obtained the arrest warrants for two women charged in a 4-year-old boy’s death.
Atlanta police found Cobee Cooks’ body at a townhome on Cardinal Drive during a welfare check Tuesday night. Investigators have charged Jasmaine Smoak and Jasmine Jenkins with murder and cruelty to children.
The warrants said that officers discovered Cooks under a pile of clothes in a closet at the home. The Fulton County Medical Examiner later ruled that Cooks died from multiple blunt force injuries.
Police said Smoak was caring for several children in the home. Officers say they tracked Smoak to Wilkes County with three other children, including Cobee’s 5-year-old brother Cayden, whose body was badly bruised.
The warrants also charge Jenkins as a party to the crime with murder and first-degree cruelty to children. Detectives said Jenkins was staying with Smoak and both women left the children at the home to go out. Investigators said they found a DoorDash bag in the living room that Jenkins had ordered.
Police said another child was taken to Augusta Medical Center with bruising, a cut above his left eye, and signs of malnourishment. Doctors determined his injuries were from abuse.
Detectives said they plan to obtain historical cell phone records to learn more about Smoak’s and Jenkins’ movements.

CHILD’S GRANDPARENTS ARE ‘HEARTBROKEN’
“We’re heartbroken. We really are. We’re heartbroken because he didn’t deserve this,” Andrea and Brian Cooks said to Channel 2’s Tom Jones about the murder of their 4-year-old grandson, Cobee Cooks.
They say he had the sweetest soul, was a natural-born leader and had such a fun spirit.
“That’s why we can’t understand, like, what could a child with such a beautiful spirit do that to you for you to be so evil to him?” Andrea Cooks said.
The grandparents are staying by Cobee’s brother’s side as he recovers at the hospital.
“Just looking at my grandson with all the scars and bruises, it’s like it’s been an ongoing thing,” Brian Cooks said.
