2 people, 5 dogs rescued from Olive Branch house fire
OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (WMC) - Two people and five dogs were rescued Thursday night after a house fire broke out along Oak Leaf Drive.
The Olive Branch Fire Department responded to the home around 7 p.m. When crews arrived, they helped an elderly woman and two dogs safely evacuate. The woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Firefighters then entered the home, encountering heavy smoke and flames spreading through the kitchen and living room. During a search, crews located a elderly man trapped inside a back bathroom.
He was rushed to Regional One Health and treated for smoke inhalation and esophageal burns; officials expect him to make a full recovery. Firefighters also found three more dogs inside the house, rescuing and treating them on scene.
Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
