New Mexico Democratic gubernatorial nominee Deb Haaland ended a historic campaign fundraising haul with an additional $1.5 million in recent weeks, according to the latest campaign finance filings with the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office.
Haaland has national name recognition as the nation’s first-ever Indigenous female U.S. Interior Department secretary and has received more than $20 million over course of the 2026 primary and general elections.
Between Oct. 6 and Oct. 27, Haaland received a little more than $1.5 million across nearly 30,000 donations. Her Republican opponent Gregg Hull, a former Rio Rancho mayor, received a little over $350,000 from approximately 1,200 donations in the same time period. Hull has received approximately $2.8 million this election season.
A campaign haul of $20 million dwarfs recent gubernatorial campaigns, including that of incumbent Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan who is finishing her second and final term in office. She received approximately $13.8 million for her 2022 re-election campaign, according to Secretary of State’s Office records.
Contributions to Haaland’s campaign alone make up more than more than 80% of more than 36,000 donations in the latest filing period to all candidates running for election or re-election this cycle.
Like in previous campaign finance reports, Haaland received small-dollar donations from every state and territory in the country, as well as from military members serving overseas. The largest percentage of her donations came from California, followed closely by New Mexico.
During the primary campaign against Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, Haaland’s haul of donations contained in filings numbering in the thousands of pages temporarily broke the Secretary of State’s website.
Also like previous campaign filings, Hull’s donations came almost entirely from New Mexico donors, with all but 11 of his 1,186 donations being listed as in-state.
Hull has previously pointed to his in-state support as proof that his campaign is geared toward New Mexicans. Haaland has cited the sheer number of small donations from across the country as evidence of her wide, grassroots support.
The latest filings, due to the Secretary of State’s Office on Thursday, mark the final glimpse into campaign fundraising activity before the general election concludes Tuesday.
