Gayle Benson to acquire iconic New Orleans hotel

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Saints officials announced Friday (Oct. 30) that Gayle Benson is acquiring The Windsor Court hotel.

The hotel has been a hallmark of New Orleans hospitality for more than four decades, and this acquisition marks the first time in the hotel’s history that it is under 100% local ownership.

The Berger Company, led by Darryl and Ryan Berger, will retain a minority interest in the property and be involved in hotel operations, Benson’s team said.

This investment reflects Benson’s enduring commitment to New Orleans and her confidence in the city’s future as a premier destination, Benson’s team said.

“The Windsor Court is an iconic piece of New Orleans history, and it is a tremendous privilege to help shape its future,” Benson said. “My vision is to build on that excellence and take it to even greater heights.”

The hotel opened in 1984 ahead of the World’s Fair and helped establish a new standard for luxury hospitality in the city.

Benson’s planned improvements will build on the service and attention to detail that have earned The Windsor Court a loyal following among travelers from around the world, Benson’s team said.

Benson expressed her gratitude to the Berger family for facilitating her new acquisition.

“I am deeply grateful to Darryl and the Berger family for making this acquisition such a smooth and collaborative process,” Benson said. “They have cared for this hotel with great pride, and their involvement has made it possible to begin this next chapter with a shared commitment to its continued success.”

The General Manager of The Windsor Court, Ralph Mahana, says local ownership gives the hotel a strong foundation for its next chapter.

“Local ownership brings a personal commitment to this hotel, our team, and the city we call home. The upcoming renovation is an opportunity to build on that legacy, with our primary focus on maintaining and enhancing an unmatched, world-class experience for every guest of The Windsor Court,” Mahana said.

Benson said her new acquisition represents both a business investment and a commitment to contributing to New Orleans’ global reputation.

“Hotels like The Windsor Court help introduce the world to the very best of New Orleans. I want every guest to leave with a sense of what makes our city so special - and every person who works here to feel proud of the future we are building together,” Benson said.
