Woman charged over video recording of Lindsay Clancy's former father-in-law
A Florida woman has been accused of sharing an illegal recording made of Lindsay Clancy’s former father-in-law while Clancy’s high-profile trial was still underway earlier this year.
Shawna Gramkow, of Sanford, Florida, was issued a summons last week for a charge of unlawful wiretapping, according to records from Hingham District Court.
Christopher Clancy, the father of Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband, reported the recording to Scituate police on Sept. 4 — the day that the judge in the case declared a mistrial, according to an incident report filed in court.
In it, police said that Christopher Clancy told officers that someone had shared a post from the Instagram account saltylunatics in which a person explains that someone shared with her a recording of a call to a phone number for Patrick Clancy — it had been revealed by Lindsay Clancy’s lawyer during the trial. The speaker says that Christopher Clancy “was kind of mumbling still on the phone, I guess he didn’t know that the phone was still going.”
An investigator watched the video, in which the sound of a man’s voice was largely unintelligible, but Clancy remembered getting a call from an unknown number around Aug. 6 while he was driving in Scituate, accidentally answered and didn’t consent to recording, according to the report. Clancy said he recognized comments he made about his eldest son.
Massachusetts requires people recording others to get everyone’s consent.
Investigators looked into the video and determined that the Instagram account belongs to Gramkow and she is the person who was talking in the video, the report said. That led to the summons; Gramkow is due in court for arraignment on Nov. 20.
Gramkow posted a video on Thursday on the Instagram account, which posts videos about the Clancy trial, that said, “The allegations are false. And easy to prove.” The court docket didn’t say if she had an attorney who could speak to the charge.
