Charlotte Blue Line customers will experience single-tracking starting next week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - People who ride the Charlotte Area Transit System Blue Line will be experiencing periods of single-tracking starting next week as system upgrades continue.

There will also be detours on the rail trail near the Blue Line.

On Monday, Nov. 2, the Charlotte Area Transit System will begin several periods of single-tracking and rail trail detours as major system upgrades begin. The single-tracking and rail trail detours will last through the two weeks of December.

Officials with the Charlotte Area Transit System the new upgrades to the system support construction of the new South End station.

Single-tracking is when a train or light rail travels in both directions using the same track rather than using separate tracks.

Blue Line single tracking schedule

During single-tracking operations, Blue Line riders will need to board at the designated platforms on the following dates:

• Nov. 2-6: Board using southbound platforms between the New Bern Station and the Bland Station.
• Nov. 9-13: Board using southbound platforms between the New Bern Station and the Bland Station.
• Nov. 14-15: Board using northbound platforms between the Archdale Station and the Scaleybark Station.
• Nov. 30-Dec. 4: Board using northbound platforms between the New Bern Station and the Bland Station.
• Dec. 7-11: Board using northbound platforms between the New Bern Station and the Bland Station.

Rail trail detour schedule

The Charlotte Area Transit System will also have temporary detours along parts of the rail trail adjacent from the construction zone.

Signage will be posted to direct pedestrians and cyclist to use a designated alternate route.

• Nov. 2-6: Northbound track side will be closed near South End Cannon Pharmacy
• Nov. 9-13: Northbound track side will be closed near South End Cannon Pharmacy
• Nov. 30-Dec. 4: Southbound track side closed near JETSET Pilates
• Dec. 7-11: Southbound track side closed near JETSET Pilates
