Clark County warns after rabid fox attack in Las Vegas
Residents of a southern Las Vegas neighborhood were paying a closer attention to wildlife sightings in their community Friday morning after authorities said a rabid fox bit a person in the area.
Clark County spokeswoman Jennifer Cooper said Thursday night that the county’s Animal Protection Services was notified earlier this week of an individual “who had been bitten by a fox” in the 9300 block of Jeremy Blaine Court, near Interstate 15 and Silverado Ranch Boulevard.
On Thursday night it was confirmed the fox had rabies.
“The County is alerting the public who are in the area and may have had contact with the fox or possibly bitten by it to seek immediate medical attention,” spokeswoman Jennifer Cooper said in an email Thursday evening. “Additionally, if bitten, please call 311 to reach an on-call officer with Animal Protection Services as county buildings are closed until Monday.”
Cooper said “the fox is deceased and there is no current threat to public safety.”
The bite unfolded in a gated community in a neighborhood on the west side of Interstate 15, not too far away from the South Point resort.
